ABSTRACT

This website is about tattoos and how society perceives them in Asian culture, more specifically, Korean culture. I have a love for art and tattoos, and being interested in other cultures, I quickly came to realize that not all of them are accepting of them. One viewpoint that stood out to me was the stigma that a large majority of Korea has, which is that Tattoos are for people who are gangsters (MacFarlane). However, the view on tattoos is rapidly changing: “tattoos on the bodies of Korean youth are a fashion statement, expression of self and signs of social change (Park).” Traditions and social views are aspects of life that are often passed down, which makes many think that these thoughts are linear (Sims). However, thoughts and feelings on these subjects are so easily influenced, so society and the views that they hold is easily changed over time.
